How to Keep your Home Clean and Odorless

You can make your home more welcoming if you make it smell nice. It’s a great way to make it an inviting place to come too, this is where you sleep and for some where you work so taking some time out of the day to create a pleasant aroma isn’t a bad thing. Keep your home smelling wonderful with these quick home cleaning tips.

Steps

Tidy and Clean First. Grab any curtains and or rugs upholsters that can retain odors and throw them in the washer or hand wash them outside and hang them on a line to dry off if this is possible in your living situation.

Let the sun in. Open the drapes and curtains in your home to let the sunshine into your home all day if possible. The rays help stop bacteria from festering in these areas and will help keep your home free of bad odors.

Air out your house. Open all windows or open one window at opposite ends of the home to create a passage of entrance and exit. Airing out your house like this is a great way to keep everything fresh and free of bad smells.

Stay as natural as you can. Clean your floors with the appropriate floor cleaning product and a mop and treat your walls with a solution vinegar (one part) and water (3 parts). Vinegar has proven to be the most effective even among commercial products, for removing bad odors while being better for you and the environment.

The great thing about vinegar is that it’s a natural de-odorizer and the smell evaporates quickly after cleaning and doesn’t burn your nose like other intense chemical based products.

Use professional help. If your home still smells bad for any reason, it’s time to call in an expert cleaning company, you might have mould festering in areas which are not easy to access.

If you find your cleaning to be of help, light a scented candle to add that extra touch of strawberry of lemon. Choose a scent that’s subtle and that will be pleasant to any guest in your home. If you’re afraid to use an open flame in your home, purchase a safe candle warmer which melts the wax at a low temperature so you get the same effect but without the flame.

Use modern scent appliances. Use a modern plug and smell device in the most commonly populated areas of your home to add that extra light pleasant scent.

For a more natural scent lightly heat some lemon or orange peels in a small pot on the stove and add some cinnamon sticks to fill your home with a deliciously wonderful fragrance.

Bake some Cookies or Brownies. Use the oven to your advantage by baking treats which will add that homey smell to your living quarters. Nothing beats the smell of a home made treat.

  Tips

If you have unseen storage areas in your home which are only used for hanging clothes or storing toiletries, hang some air fresheners where appropriate. Every time you open the door you’ll get a wiff of that pleasant smell instead of the mustiness you usually get.

Animals are a big contributor to bad odors around the home so keep them well groomed, and their sleeping areas well organized and clean.

Advice

Keep your cleaning down to a simple science. Mixing and matching cleaning products is highly dangerous so avoid doing this at all costs. Products containing ammonia and bleach can produce a toxic gas in your home. Keep it natural whenever you can.

Put candles in a tall isolated place. Keep away from children and away from stray objects or curtains which could catch fire and spread very quickly. Always make safety your number one priority.
