Titanic. Titanic, the story of love and loss, rebellion, mischief, past and present is now one of the classics that any love story enthusiast will enjoy. In terms of a classic love story turned blockbuster, this comes a close second behind Romeo and Juliet.

The story follows a young, well-to-do suicidal girl and a working class young man who’s worlds collide in a passionate storm of adventure and new discoveries in love and life.

The now older woman tells the story of their encounter to a hypnotized group of scientists who are captivated by the events that unfolded before the catastrophe struck on the infamous sunken ship. A story which captures the imagination, cleverly executed & directed, and of epic proportions; for those who haven’t seen it, what are you waiting for?


The Matrix. This film conveniently released at the turn of the millennium has the air of an independent film which enjoyed the success of a blockbuster. Even for those who are not lovers of futuristic novels/films there is no reason to miss this epic-ly, revolutionary work of cinematographic-al and story telling artistry of a movie.

The exploration of the age old philosophical questions of reality, existence and who and why we are, are all taken into this incredible world of truth, mystery, intelligence and Salvador Dalian-reality.

One Flew over the Cuckoo’s nest. One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest is an interesting story protagonised by Jack Nickleson. A young convict is sentenced to prison but fails the sanity test, leading him straight to the ‘Cuckoo House’ avoiding prison.

This takes him on a journey of discovery between the parallels of prison life and insane asylums and their staff. An incredibly powerful and eye opening story of the societal systems lead by irresponsibility and inhumane activity.


Lion King. This animated feature film is in some way involved in the childhood of many a people today. The message of loss and the eternal is intertwined throughout this film. The story of a village, of independence, growing up, family relationships, mischief, adventure and journeys of discovery are all a part of this amazing story which resonates with the human spirit.

The fact that humanity is so visible in these animated animals is what makes this film so astonishing, inspiring and delightful. Despite being an animation, presented in children’s packaging, the issues that arise are more of an adult nature and the thought of losing a parent as a youngster can troubling be for a child.

Nevertheless, a wonderful and mature way of viewing life, loss and existence appears throughout the film which is still a great lesson for any youngster learning and discovering themselves and those around them.
