How to Fundraise for Charity

Your new philanthropic journey is one to be proud of and raising funds for charity is a great way to go about helping your fellow man. Once you’ve chosen a reputable, well organized charity that allows you to physically see the work you’re helping to develop, follow these tips to raise as much money as you can.

Step by Step

Choose and write down the charity, animal shelter or event you are going to conduct the fund raiser at.

Make an online fundraising page. This could be a simple web page or a social network page which you can send the link to your friends, family and colleagues and anyone else to support you in this venture.

This can save allot of time in printing physical leaflets or paper ads to rally a big support base for your event.

Ask for Donations. Send a heartfelt letter or blog post to the people you want to support you and show the beneficiaries of their generous actions.

It’s good to separate donations at different levels such as $25=Silver, $100=Gold, $500=Platinum etc.

Sell things to raise funds.

- There are companies selling wholesale goods to non profits so they can resell them.

- Use your talents to create new things and sell on the streets. Set up a shopping cart or sell through popular selling/buying sites.

- If you’re younger and are looking for something more immediate, offer to do chores for people around your neighborhood, but tell your parents before entering a stranger’s home or back yard.

Getting international support for your fundraising can be another great way to buil dup your funds for your charity. Sites like Go Fundraise and Mycause can help you raise awareness and funds for your cause which will help you seem more legitimate to your friends, family and other people with similar interests.

Look for events where people are already going to and offer a transaction in services, for example getting people through the door and getting the money they make from drinks for your cause. Ask musician or celebrity friends if they’d play a benefit show for your cause.

Have an auction. Silent auctions can more often than not be the most lucrative and are the easiest to organize. Local retailers are most of the time willing to donate things in exchange for good PR, you just have to find cool things that people would enjoy spending their money on such as gift certificates, hotel weekends, spa/beauty treatments etc which are very popular.

A great way to get someone to sponsor you is if you ask a local bakery or restaurant to donate their left over pastries and foods in support of your cause.

Have a Raffle. Sell the tickets for $2 with a capacity of say 100 people. The charitable raffle will have a prize of $100 or a gift package (and your cause receives $100) which will increase the likelihood of ass participation in your event.

Be creative and use the internet to harness all possible support for your cause. Crowdrise, Give2gether or First Giving or use an organization that allows you ‘Free clicks for Charity’ which allows you to raise funds when visitors visit sponsored sites. Have fun, be consistent and enjoy the experience!

  Tips

Show your gratitude hen people donate anything, from 1 penny to $1000 dollars or more, show your appreciation for their generosity or time.

If you don’t believe in the cause, no one else will. Donors need to see the gleam in your eye hen you speak passionately about your cause, they’ll love to help out someone who’s serious about making a change for the better.

Expect the worst and hope for the best. This way you’ll never be disappointed; you’ll receive many rejections in the beginning until you gain enough momentum, the the ‘yes’s’ will start to roll in.
