Writing meaningful poetry, love poetry or observant poetry is something that should be taken as a fun creative experience.
The more you open up on the page, the better your poem will be, the more people will connect with it.
When you're expressing yourself through writing especially in poetry, it's important to be completely vulnerable, if you let yourself go it will flow out of you.
Poetry is something that can be very therapeutic just like any type of creative process, so take it as a fun hobby and it might turn into a career or even help you write songs.
Step by Step
Pick up your Tools. Find your tools including lined paper and a smooth pen or pencil.
Choose your structure. Use your poetic writing structures and know how many beats will be in each line and what type of rhyming scheme you prefer. (either a sonnet or lambic pentameter).
Choose your subject. Base your poem on a recent experience, or a dream and try to use descriptive adjectives to help your feelings get across to the reader.
Inject meaning in your poem. Begin your poem by using descriptive phrases and words and as it lengthens increase the emotion of meaningful words and phrases.
Have a message. Finish off your poem with a moral or a powerful conclusion about what you discovered or feel differently about. Take these steps as a guide if you’re not inspired. If you are, write down all your great ideas and later restructure your words into poetry.
Tips
Find out what a meaningful poem is to you, read lots of poetry and find one poem that impacts you. Try and apply the same method but with your own story.
Think about who you want to read this, who’s your audience? What kind of subjects are relatable, school, love, friendship, happiness, nature etc.
If you aren’t immediately inspired, sit on a park bench and watch the world go by or go some place new, to find new possibilities for your inspiration.
Create a hidden meaning for the text so the reader has to think about your poem for a long time. It doesn’t necessarily have to make sense per-say, it can be very abstract and subjective and can often seem more professional.
Read a lot of poetry so the writing process will come naturally to you and make your poem an appropriate length so the user is not unsatisfied but is not bored either.
