Some of the best basketball players can shoot from near or far and rarely hit the rim; it’s always nothing but net.
Hitting perfect three throws and always being on target is something that is achievable but needs allot of practice.
If your current techniques aren't working, tweak your positions and adjust your form by following the steps below and you'll soon see some changes in your game.
Apart from knowing how to shoot, knowing when to shoot is just as important, playing with your team mates and opening up time and space to shoot will give you time to adjust and increase your chances of making the hoop.
Step by Step
If you’re right handed, handle the ball with your right hand when shooting.
If you’re shooting with your right hand, put your right foot slightly in front of the other. Keep your feet the same width of your shoulder.
Maintain your balance, focus on the back of the rim and keep your elbows touching your torso as much as you can (don’t be uncomfortable though) to create a longer range of motion when you throw.
Shooting: Push your arm straight up, and flick your wrist towards the rim and follow through strongly with the rest of your body, jump if you are far away from the rim.
Support the ball with your non-shooting hand, don’t shoot with it you have better control and rotation with your shooting hand.
Tips
Practice Miming the action without the ball and then with the ball.
Follow BEEF. The strategy of Balance, Elbows under the ball, Eyes on the target and follow through with your arm.
Use your legs to spring up especially during three point shots and fade away moves.
When shooting from the sides, aim at the nearest top corner of the back board (at the painted square behind the rim). The ball will always bounce in the rim if you hit the top corner.
Notes
•Elbows in keeps the shot straight, follow through keep the ball from straying, jumping lessens the chance of
being blocked.
•Learn your opponent’s tells and avoid shooting when they can block easily, you can get a ball to the face, which doesn’t feel great.
•You won’t make every shot, just keep doing the steps and you’ll get it.
